The Original Smencil is an environmental friendly, GO GREEN Fundraising product! Here are some facts about the manufacturing of this great $1 in-hand seller: Sheets of 100% recycled newspaper are rolled tightly around a #2 graphite-writing core until pencils of typical thickness are formed. Then they are hardened, allowing them to be sharpened just like a wood pencil. Next the Gourmet Smencil is soaked with a liquid gourmet scent. Once dry, the erasers are attached and flavor sticker is wrapped around the Smencil to identify what Scent was infused into the Smencil. (Each Smencil comes packaged in a re-sealable tube.) Environmental facts about Go-Green Smencils Fundraising:   An average sized cedar tree will make about 172,000 wood pencils.     The average tree can filter about 60 pounds of air pollution per year.   172,000 Smencils can be made from 430 newspapers.     If everyone in the US recycled just 10% of their newspapers, we would save about 25 million trees each year. Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times saves about 75,000 trees.         Smencils are made from recycled newspaper. You can even see the newsprint in the layers of newspaper when you sharpen them. The shavings smell good too!
